Nexus Accelerator Group
In response to Ethiopia’s escalating humanitarian needs, the Development Partners Group (DPG) and the Humanitarian Country Team (HCT) have jointly established the HDP Nexus Accelerator Group. This technical-level platform is designed to advance a coordinated Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) approach that addresses overlapping crises, including conflict, drought, and systemic vulnerabilities. By fostering collaboration across sectors and actors, the group aims to reduce humanitarian needs and build resilience through integrated planning & action.
Mandate and Strategic Functions
The HDP Nexus Accelerator Group promotes shared priorities, joint analysis, and coordinated advocacy among humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding stakeholders. Its core functions include supporting sectoral collaboration, enhancing coherence in planning and financing cycles, and generating evidence and lessons for scaling nexus approaches. The group also plays a key role in informing high-level DPG-HCT meetings. An action plan and selected indicators will guide its work.
Inclusive Membership and Coordination
Open to a wide range of actors—including UN agencies, INGOs, government ministries, and peacebuilding networks—the HDP Nexus Accelerator Group meets quarterly and reports to both the DPG and HCT leadership. Through its inclusive and results-oriented approach, the group is positioned to drive forward Ethiopia’s HDP Nexus agenda and strengthen national ownership of integrated solutions to complex challenges.

Objectives of the SWG
The HDP Nexus Accelerator Group aims to advance a coordinated Humanitarian-Development-Peace (HDP) approach in Ethiopia, ensuring that responses to crises are integrated, complementary, and sustainable. Its primary objective is to reduce humanitarian needs and vulnerabilities by fostering stronger linkages between emergency relief, long-term development, and peacebuilding efforts. The group seeks to promote national ownership of the HDP Nexus agenda and enhance coherence across planning cycles, programs, and financing streams.
To achieve these goals, the group focuses on several strategic functions: facilitating joint analysis and information sharing, supporting common advocacy and messaging, and generating evidence and lessons learned for scaling nexus approaches. It also works to strengthen collaboration among humanitarian clusters, development partners, and peace actors at national and subnational levels, while building capacity for integrated programming. Through these efforts, the HDP Nexus Accelerator Group serves as a catalyst for practical solutions that bridge humanitarian response and development investments, contributing to resilience and stability in Ethiopia.
