The Water and Energy Sector Working Group (WESWG) is an initiative that was jointly established by the Government and Donors1. The primary goal of this initiative is to promote, support, and coordinate the sustainable and integrated development and management of water and energy resources in Ethiopia.
The WESWG is divided into three main subgroups: WASH, WRM, and Energy. Each of these subgroups has its own set of objectives and activities that they focus on. The WASH subgroup is responsible for water, sanitation, and hygiene matters. The WRM subgroup handles water resources management, and the Energy subgroup focuses on energy-related issues.
The WESWG Secretariat is hosted at the Ministry of Water and Energy. The Secretariat facilitates regular meetings, dialogues, and forums among the stakeholders. These meetings serve as a platform for discussion and collaboration, fostering a cooperative approach to water and energy management.
In addition to its role as a facilitator, the WESWG also functions as a knowledge hub for the water and energy sectors. It collects and disseminates information and best practices, contributing to the overall development and efficiency of these sectors in Ethiopia. This knowledge sharing helps to ensure that all stakeholders are informed and can make decisions based on the latest and most accurate information.
