The Innovation, Digital Economy, and ICT Joint Working Group (JWG) is dedicated to fostering policy dialogue and collaboration between the Government of Ethiopia and development partners. Its goal is to ensure that a government-led strategy for innovation, digital economy, and ICT is effectively supported, harmonized, and aligned with national development objectives.

By establishing a platform for engagement, we facilitate discussions on policy and program issues at the sector level, ensuring:

  • Information sharing on existing programs and future strategies
  • Collaboration on best practices and lessons learned
  • Design and implementation of joint programs
  • Effective monitoring of progress against national strategies

Our Vision

The Government of Ethiopia envisions a digitally empowered nation that fosters job and wealth creation through technology and innovation. Our efforts are focused on building an ecosystem where the digital economy thrives, the technology industry remains competitive, and innovation plays a central role in national development.

The JWG  has a mission to create an enabling environment for the digital economy, strengehtn Ethiopia’s technology industry to become globally competitive, and leverage innovation, technology, and research for job and wealth creation.

To turn the vison and mission into reality, the sector set four key strategic goals, these are:

  1. Capacity building for national innovation, research, and technology
  2. Building a national digital economy and increasing utilization
  3. Improving productivity and competitiveness through building technology industries; and
  4. Deployment of innovation and technology governance as well as regulatory systems.

Objectives of the JWG

The general objective of the JWG is to host policy dialogue and consultations to ensure that a government-led strategy to deliver on aspects of Innovation, Digital Economy, and ICT of the country’s development plan will be effectively supported by development partners – that is aligned, harmonized, and adequately resourced.

The JWG has also the below listed specific objectives:

  • Reviewing implementation of policies and sector requirements and giving advice to government
  • Ensuring sectoral development partners engagement based on international commitments
  • Enhancing effective dialogue, ownership and mutual accountability
